Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are hosting Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for the 57th game of the ongoing IPL 2025. The KKR vs CSK match is being played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Wednesday (May 7).
KKR needs to win this game at any cost to stay alive in the competition. KKR's fate is no more in their hands, and they might miss out on the playoffs even if they go on to win all of their remaining games. There is little room for any slip-up for KKR, and the defending champions will be eyeing a crucial win.
Kolkata win the KKR vs CSK toss
They have already defeated CSK once this season. The Ajinkya Rahane-led side had thrashed CSK by 8 wickets in their own backyard earlier in the ongoing tournament and will be confident of winning the upcoming game as well. In their last game, KKR registered a thrilling 1-run win over Rajasthan Royals and have the winning momentum on their side.
On the other hand, CSK's fate is already sealed as they have been knocked out of IPL 2025. With just 2 wins from 11 games, the Chennai-based outfit is currently languishing at the bottom of the points table. They will also be eager to win their remaining league games and end their dismal campaign on a good note.

KKR vs CSK: KKR opt to bat
KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane won the KKR vs CSK toss and opted to bat first. Speaking at toss, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane said: "We will bat first. Looks a good wicket. Last two games we batted first and did really well. We want to put runs on the board and defend it. What's important is taking one game at a time. Not thinking much about the future.
"Lots of learnings from the previous match, guys are looking forward to this game. You are bound to lose close games, but you need to be confident. If there's a chance, we will try to give our best. Venkatesh Iyer misses out, Manish Pandey comes in," he added.
On the other hand, CSK captain MS Dhoni said: "I have played a lot of cricket here while growing up, like a home ground for the amount of cricket I have played here. When it was Zonal trophy, a few office leagues, overall I have played a lot of cricket here and nearby. What's important is to get answers for the next year.
"What hasn't gone well for us in the tournament. Trying to get those answers, our middle-order batting and bowling solutions. We are giving chances to players, but we want a good playing XI or XII. You can try such things towards the end," added the veteran wicketkeeper-batsman.
