The highly-anticipated ICC World Cup 2023 is exactly two months away. And as the marquee event inches closer with each passing day, the cricket fraternity has started making predictions.
The upcoming World Cup will be a special occasion for India. Having co-hosted the 50-over World Cup thrice in the past, India will be hosting it alone for the first time. The World Cup is scheduled to begin on October 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Reigning champions England and New Zealand will be playing in the tournament opener.
The final is also scheduled at the same venue on November 19. A total of 48 games over 46 days will be played in World Cup 2023. The tournament will be played across 10 venues. As far as hosts India are concerned, they will be opening their campaign against five-time world champions Australia on October 8 in Chennai.
Ahead of the World Cup, former Australia pace spearhead Glenn McGrath has predicted the semifinalists for the competition. The multiple World Cup winner stated that home conditions make India a strong contender. Glenn McGrath then picked Australia, England, and Pakistan as the other semifinalists while snubbing the likes of New Zealand and South Africa.
Glenn McGrath picks his World Cup top 4:
“You wouldn’t be surprised that I’m putting Australia in that four. Obviously, India are playing in their own conditions. England is playing some great cricket and Pakistan is also playing fine. So, they are the best four,” Glenn McGrath told the Times of India.
ICC World Cup schedule likely to be changed:
There is a possibility that the schedule for the ICC World Cup 2023 could see some minor changes. Recently, BCCI secretary Jay Shah revealed that the ICC could make some changes after a few Full Member countries asked the apex body for the same.
“As far as possible, we are looking at not changing the venue as well as the matches. Not changing the venue is very important. Teams which have six-day gaps between matches, we are trying to reduce it to four-five days; and those that have just two-day gaps, we are trying to increase to three days,” Shah had said.
