Deepti Sharma’s run-out to dismiss Charlotte Dean in the final ODI of the three-match series ended in dramatic fashion between the India and England women’s cricket teams at Lord’s sparked a debate on social media.
Many social media users reminded England cricket about the incident in the 2019 World Cup final where the ball deflected off Stokes’ bat and went for four overthrows.
Why Are People Comparing Ball Deflecting Of My Bat To Mankad – Ben Stokes
After three days of the discussion being a hot topic on social media, England’s Test team captain Ben Stokes has finally reacted and questioned why people are comparing the ball deflecting off his bat during the World Cup final in 2019 to Deepti Sharma’s run-out of Charlotte Dean.
Ben Stokes tweeted: “Why are people comparing a ball deflecting of my bat to a mankad.”

Deepti Sharma revealed that the dismissal was planned because Dean kept walking out of the crease. She further added that Dean had been warned multiple times before she decided to whip off the bails.
“It was our plan because she was doing it repeatedly. We had also warned her. So, according to the guidelines of the rules we did it.”
“Yes, yes definitely we did say because we told the umpires. But still she was there so we couldn’t do anything. Every team wants to win and we wanted to win and give her (Jhulan Goswami) a good farewell. So going by that, as a team we did what we could, we put that effort in.”
Harmanpreet Kaur-led India whitewashed England on their soil with a win in the final ODI of the three-match series on Saturday, September 24, at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground amid a farewell to Jhulan Goswami.
