Fast-bowler Deepak Chahar could miss the upcoming tour of South Africa in order to be with his father, who was recently hospitalized due to a medical emergency. Team India will visit the African country this month for a multi-format series. They are scheduled to play three T20Is, three ODIs, and two Tests against the Proteas.

The right-arm pacer has been named in both the white-ball squads. He recently made his much-awaited return to action during the five-match T20I series against Australia. The Rajasthan star was added to the India squad for the last two games of the series. He had not played a game for India since December 2022 due to a number of injury setbacks.

Before returning to international cricket, Deepak Chahar enjoyed a good outing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy which paved the way for his comeback. He picked up ten wickets in five games at an economy of 7.38 in addition to scoring 67 runs off 39 balls at a strike rate of 171.79. However, he could miss a few games once again to be with his family.

Deepak Chahar doubtful for South Africa tour:

On last Sunday (December 3), Deepak Chahar was a notable absentee from the final T20I against Australia in Bengaluru. At the toss, India captain Suryakumar Yadav disclosed that his teammate had to leave abruptly due to a medical emergency. Later, it was reported that the pacer’s father had been taken to the hospital in a critical condition.

Speaking to Sports Tak, Deepak Chahar revealed that his father’s condition is stable and improving at the moment. The India star also stated that he would not join the team until his father’s condition improves further. He has already conveyed the message to the team management.

“We got him to the hospital on time. Else, it could have been dangerous. His condition is better at the moment. People were asking, why I didn’t play the final T20I against Australia. For me, my father is very important. He made me the player I am. I cannot leave him in this condition and couldn’t go anywhere.”

“That’s why I am staying with my father and once he is out of danger, I will start my journey to South Africa. I have talked to Rahul (Dravid) sir and the selectors,” said Deepak Chahar.
