Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan recently selected an all-rounder who impressed him during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. Irfan Pathan overlooked Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Will Jacks, and Andre Russell and named the West Indies cricketer as the best all-rounder.
Hardik Pandya failed to make an impact with both bat and ball in the ongoing season. The Mumbai Indians skipper has scored 198 runs in 11 matches at a disappointing average of 19.80 and a strike rate of 147.76. The right-handed batter has failed to reach the half-century mark so far in the IPL 2024.
The 30-year-old pacer has taken eight wickets at an average of 37.13 and an expensive economy rate of 11.00, with the best bowling figures of 2/26. To make matters worse, the Mumbai-based team has won just three matches out of 11. They are currently in ninth place in the table with six points.

In a video shared by ESPNCricinfo on X (formerly known as Twitter), Irfan Pathan was asked to choose the best all-rounder in the tournament. Pathan opted for Hardik Pandya when asked to choose between the MI skipper and Shahbaz Ahmed. However, he acknowledged Shahbaz Ahmed's performance.
"Quality-wise, Hardik Pandya, but performance-wise, Shahbaz Ahmed. I'll still go with Hardik," Pathan told ESPNcricinfo.
Irfan Pathan rated Will Jacks higher than Ravindra Jadeja in terms of all-round performance. The cricketer-turned-commentator then ranked Andre Russell above Jacks. Pathan named Kolkata Knight Riders opener Sunil Narine as the top all-rounder in the tournament, placing him ahead of Andre Russell.

This Team Was So Good On Paper - Irfan Pathan
Irfan Pathan criticized the Mumbai Indians' management after their loss to Kolkata Knight Riders. Pathan suggested that Pandya lacks support from his players and urged MI management to address these issues for better performance in the future.
"Mumbai Indians' story ends here. This team was so good on paper, but it wasn't managed. The questions that were raised on Hardik Pandya's captaincy were absolutely right. When you've restricted KKR to 57/5, you didn't have to give Naman Dhir three successive overs."
"You had to bring your main bowlers, and you gave your sixth bowler three overs. Manish Pandey and Venkatesh Iyer posted a strong partnership. You could've bowled them out on 150 instead you let them score 170," Irfan said.
"Captaincy has a big impact in the game. Mumbai Indians don't look like a united team, and management needs to consider this. Players need to respect and accept the captain, and we didn't see that on-field. They have to improve in that aspect," he added.
