Indian wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha opened up on his decision to leave Bengal in domestic cricket.
The 37-year-old was named in Bengal’s squad for Ranji Trophy 2022 quarterfinals against Jharkhand despite his unwillingness.
Wriddhiman Saha is yet to decide on a new domestic team
Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Avishek Dalmiya and Bengal head coach Arun Lal tried to convince the senior player to stay back. But all the efforts went in vain as Saha was adamant to leave the Bengal team after almost spending a decade and a half over there.

Saha has been in talks with a few other state associations but is yet to finalise his next domestic team.
I will meet Avishek Dalmiya in person and finalise the formalities: Wriddhiman Saha
“Since I had made up my mind that I won’t play for Bengal, I had informed (Avishek Dalmiya) over phone. But I will meet him in person and finalise the formalities,” Saha told Sportstar.
“For me, too, it is a very sad feeling that I have to go through something like this after playing for Bengal for so long. It is disappointing that people make such comments and question your integrity. As a player, I had never faced such a thing in the past, but now that it has happened, even I need to (move on),” Saha added.
In February, Saha was dropped from India’s Test squad for the Sri Lanka series at home. The wicketkeeper-batter revealed that head coach Rahul Dravid asked him to consider retirement as the team management was planning to groom a young player for the future.
Saha denied thinking about retirement regardless of his selection to the Indian team. Saha also unearthed senior journalist Boria Majumdar’s threatened message over refusing for an interview.

The BCCI conducted an investigation over the matter and as a result, the scribe was banned for two years from covering cricket in Indian cricket.
Saha was part of Gujarat Titans’ title triumph in IPL 2022, he scored 317 runs in 11 innings at 31.70 with three half-centuries.
