Australia batter Will Pucovski had to walk off the field in Hobart after being hit by a lethal bouncer from Riley Meredith on his helmet. The incident unfolded during his side Victoria’s Sheffield Shield clash against Tasmania earlier today. Pucovski received medical attention quickly and there was no need for a stretcher to carry him out of the ground as he was good enough to walk away with his own feet.

People who watched that moment unfold, were in a state of shock to see Will Pucovski falling on his knees, once the short ball struck his helmet. Memories of the Phil Hughes incident were sort of renewed as Victoria’s medical staff did not waste much time to get on the field. After a little assessment, Pucovski was announced out of danger but he could not carry on with his batting.

The match, which is being played in Hobart is at its final juncture as Victoria is trying to chase down 442 against Tasmania Tigers for the win. Day 3 began with a century from opening batter Nic Maddinson and a half-century from Marcus Harris. After their fall for 109 and 76, Pucovski had come out to bat alongside Peter Handscomb but the former was in the crease for just 2 deliveries in total.

Victoria Cricket officials provide update on Will Pucovski’s concussion

After the unfortunate incident took place, an official from Cricket Victoria told the press that Will Pucovski was out of danger and had been taken for further treatment.

“Pucovski, who walked from the field, is being monitored by medical staff. More information will be provided at a later stage.” – the statement read.

This is not the first time that Pucovski suffered a concussion of this sort. He has previously dealt with the same issues and it has a lot to do with his mental health. In an interview a few months ago, the 26-year-old had stated his mental health is directly linked to the concussions. There he stated he is not much worried about his physical health but it’s his mental health that is creating major roadblocks.

“The mental health has been a much bigger issue for me than even the concussions. I don’t fear for my long-term health, it’s more the mental health side that’s been the tougher part. One day I’ll be ready to tell my whole story and it will probably make a lot more sense.” – Will Pucovski said in the Vic State Cricket podcast
“I’ve explained what I’ve been through to my inner circle of people and actually all the responses I’ve got have been like ‘Jesus, I would never have guessed that in a million years, that doesn’t even make sense to me’. It hasn’t made sense to me for years, either, but I’ve been on this pathway to understand it all.” – Pucovski concluded.

Victoria inching closer to victory

Meanwhile, shifting our focus back to the Victoria Vs Tasmania match in Hobart, the former team is well on course to clinch victory. After Will Pucovski’s concussion, Campbell Kellaway was brought in as his replacement and he is currently at the crease with Handscomb. At the time of writing, Victoria were 307/4 and they had another 135 runs for the win.
