The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed the inclusion of reserve days for the semi-final and final matches of the T20 World Cup 2024. The ICC announced that these alternative days will be utilized if the matches are not completed on the allotted dates.

The T20 World Cup is scheduled to take place in the United States of America and the Caribbean Islands from June 1 to 30. A total of 20 teams will compete against each other in the group stage. The ICC divided the teams into four groups, each comprising five teams.

Following the group stage, the top two teams from each group will progress to the Super 8s round. Teams will be divided into two groups of four, with the top two from each advancing to the knockout stage. The knockout stage will feature the semifinals and the final.

ICC Announce Reserve Days For Knock Out Matches Of T20 World Cup

During the board meeting in Dubai this week, the ICC announced that reserve days will be scheduled for the semi-finals and final of the T20 World Cup.

Additionally, in both the group stage and the Super Eight series, a minimum of five overs must be bowled for a match to be considered valid for the team batting second. However, in the knockout stages, at least ten overs will need to be bowled to constitute a match.

There Are No Easy Answers – ICC Chair Greg Barclay

ICC Chair Greg Barclay discussed the international cricket calendar’s long-term future. Barclay acknowledged that finding solutions won’t be easy but expressed a dedication to considering various options in future meetings.

“The ICC Board and Committee meetings are the forum for us to discuss the long-term future of the international game and at this set of meetings we spent a number of hours constructively considering the structure of the global cricket calendar,” Greg Barclay said.

“Whilst there are no easy answers, there is a commitment to exploring how context can be delivered and further options will be considered at upcoming meetings,” he added.

Stop Clock Rule To Be Applied During T20 World Cup 2024

The ICC approved the permanent implementation of the stop clock rule in both ODIs and T20Is. They also finalized the playing conditions for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 and outlined the qualification process for the 2026 edition of the event.

The Chief Executives’ Committee reviewed the outcomes of the stop-clock trial, revealing a significant reduction of around 20 minutes per ODI match. Recognizing the positive impact on game pace, the CEC endorsed the mandatory implementation of the stop clock in all men’s ODI and T20I matches among Full Members from June 1, 2024, including the T20 World Cup 2024.

Umpires will enforce a 60-second timer after each over, requiring the fielding team to start the next over under this time. The on-field umpire will give two warnings followed by a five-run penalty for the fielding side upon a third and subsequent violation of the rule.
