India opener, Shubman Gill expresses his feelings about his performances on his maiden Test tour. Gill replaced his under-19 captain, Prithvi Shaw at the top of the order making a debut in Melbourne against a menacing Australia bowling attack.

After returning home with the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Gill says that he was nervous on his debut innings at the iconic MCG. However, the youngster with every innings grew in confidence and made significant runs as the visitors registered an epic series victory. He finished the series with 259 runs in 3 matches at an average of 51 with a couple of half-centuries.

Yuvraj Singh prepared me to face the chin music: Shubman Gill

In India’s memorable run-chase at the Gabba, Shubman Gill missed his century by just 9 runs. He would have liked to reach the three-figure mark but is happy to contribute to the team’s victory.

The 21-year-old looked at home while facing the world-renowned fast bowling attack of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Josh Hazlewood. The elegant batsman even took charge to the pacers and didn’t shy away from playing pull shots – for which he gives credit to former India all-rounder, Yuvraj Singh, who helped him prepare for the short pitch bowling ahead of the IPL.

“A century could have been cherry on the cake. I was well set and I should have scored the century, but at the same time, I am happy that I have contributed to the team’s victory. This series was a big learning curve for me and I have become a better cricketer,” he added.

“The camp with Yuvi paaji before the IPL was very useful. During that camp, he prepared me to face the chin music. He used to throw hundreds of short-pitch balls to me from different angles, and I think it helped me a lot,” Gill further revealed.
