We were 10-15 runs short - Axar Patel
After being invited to bat first in the match by GT, DC batters failed to play big knocks, but all of them made decent contributions and took the team's score to 203/8.
Defending the score, the Delhi Capitals bowlers gave their all, but the assault from Jos Buttler was too much to handle. The GT top-order batter Buttler slammed 97* runs and steered GT to a win in 19.2 overs. Kuldeep Yadav and Mukesh Kumar were the only bowlers among the wickets for Delhi Capitals.
Speaking after the match, the Delhi Capitals skipper Axar Patel said that they were 10-15 runs short in the match, and while trying to accelerate, they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. He said:
"We were 10-15 runs short. When we tried to accelerate, we kept losing wickets."
We couldn't finish the way we wanted - Axar Patel
Axar Patel further said that they were unable to finish the way they wanted and couldn't create chances with the ball. He said:
"We couldn't finish the way we wanted. We did bowl decently. Had we managed to create few more chances, things could have been closer."
Axar Patel, at last, once again showed his dismissive attitude by saying that they won't think too much about the loss. He stated:
"It was a matter of a couple of hits. We won't think much about this loss."
Delhi Capitals (DC) clinched a thrilling 4-run win over Gujarat Titans (GT) in Match 40 of IPL 2024 at their home ground in Delhi on April 24.
Batting first, DC posted a huge score of 224/4 in their 20 overs. They got off to a poor start and lost three wickets for 44 runs inside the powerplay overs, with Sandeep Warrier dismantling the top order with his figures of 3/15.
However, the partnership between Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel brought DC back into the game. Axar, who was promoted to No. 3, played a composed knock of 66 from 43 balls while skipper Rishabh Pant blasted 88 off 43 balls. In the end, Tristan Stubbs provided the finishing touches with a rapid 26* from just 7 balls.
While defending the score, the Delhi Capitals bowlers had to work hard on a batting-friendly surface. Anrich Nortje dismissed Shubman Gill early, while Kuldeep Yadav (2/29) and Rasikh Salam (3/44) delivered vital breakthroughs during the middle overs. Despite Sai Sudharsan and David Miller threatening to take the game away, DC bowlers held their nerves and restricted GT to 220/8 in their 20 overs.
