World champions Team India will be returning to action in T20Is later this week when their three-match series against Sri Lanka gets underway in Pallekele.

While it will be India's second series after the T20 World Cup win last month, most of the first-choice players who had played in the World Cup will be in action for the first time.

Earlier this month, a second-string team led by Shubman Gill had played a 5-match series against Zimbabwe. From the T20 World Cup squad, three players - Shivam Dube, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Sanju Samson played in the series.

The Sri Lanka series will mark the beginning of a new chapter in Indian cricket. It will be India's first T20I series under new captain Suryakumar Yadav and head coach Gautam Gambhir. Suryakumar replaced Rohit Sharma as India's new T20I captain.

Rohit had announced his retirement from T20Is after the World Cup win. On the other hand, Gambhir replaced Rahul Dravid as the head coach. Dravid's tenure came to an end after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup.

And before the series against Sri Lanka, Team India have unveiled a new jersey. While the design of the jersey has not changed, another star has been added to it. The jersey now has two stars, showing India's two T20 World Cup victories. India had first won the tournament way back in 2007 before winning it again last month.

A historic run for Team India:

Team India became the first Asian country to win the T20 World Cup twice. Overall, they became the third team after West Indies and England to achieve the incredible feat. West Indies were the first team to win the tournament twice.

They first won it in 2012 before clinching the title again in 2016. England, on the other hand, won the competition in 2010 and 2022.

The Men in Blue also enjoyed a historic run in the tournament as they became the first team to win the T20 World Cup without losing a single game. In the group stage, India won 3 of their 4 games while 1 game was washed out.

In the Super 8s, the Rohit Sharma-led side beat Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Australia before beating defending champions England in the semifinal. In the final, India beat South Africa by 7 runs.
