Sourav Ganguly, the Director of Cricket of Delhi Capitals, has expressed his excitement over attending the auction for WPL 2024. The auction is scheduled to take place on Saturday (December 9) in Mumbai. The auction is set to begin at 3 pm IST.

A total of 165 players will be going under the hammer at the auction. Out of the 165 players, a maximum of 30 players can be bought by the five franchises. 9 of the 30 vacancies are for overseas players. After an impressive outing in the first season of WPL, Delhi Capitals have opted for stability and retained as many as 15 players.

In WPL 2023, the Delhi-based outfit made it to the final before losing to Mumbai Indians. They began their campaign with two wins before losing their first game against Mumbai Indians. However, they bounced back by winning two more games before suffering another defeat against Gujarat Giants. It was followed by two more wins before they lost the final.

Sourav Ganguly excited for WPL auction:

Sourav Ganguly is all set to attend the auction for the first time and he has expressed his excitement over the same. The former India skipper stated that although he was heavily involved in the appointments for the women’s team last year, he could not make it to the auction table.

“I came in at the last minute last year. Although I did set up the women staff and coaching and everything but I was not at the auction. Although it’s a small auction, we have very little gaps to fill, it’s (my) first time,” said Sourav Ganguly.

Speaking further, the legendary batsman heaped praise on the Delhi Capitals outfit for their performance in the last season, saying: “Delhi was exceptional last year. Unfortunate, we lost the final. We were by far the best team in the competition but obviously didn’t go well in the final.

“Hopefully we will start well again. In T20, in sports, there is no guarantee but it’s 95 percent the same squad. We have got one or two slots to fill. Hopefully, they will play well,” he added.
