Delhi Capitals, on Saturday (December 9), bought Australian allrounder Annabel Sutherland in the ongoing auction for the next season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). The auction is taking place in Mumbai and a total of 165 players are in contention for the 30 available slots.

Delhi Capitals entered the auction with the second-lowest purse and three available slots. The Delhi-based outfit had retained the most number of players – 15 – after their impressive performance in the inaugural WPL. They had made it to the final before losing the title decider against Mumbai Indians.

With Rs 2.25 crore remaining in their purse, Delhi Capitals went all out to secure the services for Annabel Sutherland for Rs 2 crore. The Australia star had registered herself at a base price of Rs 40 lakh. Delhi Capitals faced stiff competition from Mumbai Indians but eventually managed to sign her up.

Annabel Sutherland in WPL so far:

Annabel Sutherland had plied her trade for Gujarat Giants in the inaugural season of the WPL. She played 4 games in WPL 2023 and scored 28 runs in addition to picking up 3 wickets before being released by the Giants who finished at the bottom of the points table. The Giants had managed just 2 wins in 8 league games.

Annabel Sutherland recently impressed in the Women’s Big Bash League. In her team Melbourne Stars’ opening game against Sydney Sixers, she scored 34 runs and picked up 4 wickets. She went on to finish the competition as her team’s highest run-scorer, scoring 288 runs and picking up 23 wickets. She also led the team towards the end in the absence of Meg Lanning and helped the Stars to win three games in a row.
