Dinesh Karthik, who won a call back into the Indian side after a great season with Royal Challengers Bangalore, has a new lease on life thanks to the IPL 2022. Karthik was selected for the T20I series between India and South Africa, and he continued his excellent form with knocks of 30 not out and 55 in Cuttack and Rajkot respectively.

Karthik’s form is one of the biggest topics in Indian cricket right now, with some former cricketers discussing whether he merits a spot in India’s T20 World Cup roster.

However, while Karthik has been rewarded for his outstanding performance in the IPL, other seasoned Indian cricketers have not been so fortunate. Wriddhiman Saha, whose departure from India’s Test squad has been much discussed, had a successful IPL season, opening the innings for Gujarat Titans in their triumphant campaign. Saha produced three half-centuries on his way to 317 runs in 11 games, but it wasn’t enough to keep the veteran India wicketkeeper from being recalled.

As Long As I Love The Sport, I Will Continue To Play: Wriddhiman Saha

When asked about his possibility of making a comeback on the international stage, Saha sounded unsure, “I don’t think I will be selected going further because already the coach and the chief selector had informed me. And if they had to pick me, after my IPL performance, I would have been included in the squad for England tour. So that decision has been made clear to me that right now, there aren’t too many options. But for me, I am focussed on playing cricket. As long as I love the sport, I will play,” Saha told Sports Tak.

After scoring 362 runs for Punjab Kings in 2014, Saha’s second most successful IPL season came in 2022. Saha didn’t want to pick a favourite year between the two, but he said that he cherished both 2014 and 2022.
