Wriddhiman Saha Sticks To Decision Of Not Playing Ranji Trophy For Bengal, Shakir Habib Gandhi Named As Replacement – Reports

Veteran India wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha has decided to hold on to his decision of not playing the Ranji Trophy 2022 quarter-final for Bengal and the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has decided to include wicketkeeper-batsman Shakir Habib Gandhi in the squad as a replacement for Saha, as per a report in Sportskeeda.

Shakir Habib Gandhi was part of the Bengal squad that went on to win three consecutive games in the league stage of the Ranji Trophy 2022 earlier this year.

However, he was not included in the squad for the knockout phase as Saha was included in the squad. Now he will be a second-choice wicket-keeper behind Abishek Porel in the team.

Meanwhile, Wriddhiman Saha, who recently played a big role in Gujarat Titans’ (GT) Indian Premier League 2022 triumph, was included in the Bengal Ranji Trophy squad, without his consent, for the upcoming quarter-final clash against Jharkhand at the Cricket Academy Ground in Bengaluru, which will begin from June 6.

Also, Saha’s wife, Romi Mitra, had made a revelation that the veteran wicketkeeper-batsman was hurt by a CAB official’s statement. Notably, CAB joint secretary Debabrata Das had questioned Saha’s commitment to Bengal cricket after he didn’t participate in the league stage of the marquee domestic competition.

Earlier, a source also revealed that the veteran wicket-keeper spoke to CAB president Avishek Dalmiya and was seeking a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from CAB.

“He is not interested in playing for Bengal anymore and sought a NOC. He is very annoyed with one CAB office-bearer (joint secretary Debabrata Das) who has apparently questioned his commitment. He wants a public apology,” PTI quoted a source as saying.

Meanwhile, the Sportskeeda report further stated that the CAB has not included anyone in the squad as a replacement for veteran India pacer Mohammed Shami, who will be travelling to England for the 5th rescheduled Test, which was cancelled last year.
