The fourth day of the WTC final was washed out due to rain. Due to persistent rain and wet outfield conditions, no play was possible as the officials had to call off play. This leaves two more days of the final (Including the reserve day) to be played with a result looking distant. The ICC is under the pump with the final not reaching a proper consensus by the looks of it.

A lot of time has been lost already in the game and the washout on the fourth day has affected the final even more. After the first day was washed out, the second day saw 64.4 overs being bowled. The third day saw a total of 76.3 overs bowled by both sides together.

Meanwhile, in a recent development, the ICC has decided to sell the reserve day tickets at reduced prices. It has come out with a statement on the same as well. The new rates will be GBP 100 (INR 10,296), GBP 75 (INR 7722) and GBP 50 (INR 5148).

“Yes, the prices of the tickets for the sixth day will be reduced. It’s a standard practice for Test matches played in United Kingdom. Since the Test match is only open to UK residents, ICC is following the same guidelines,” an ICC source told PTI on Monday.

ICC’s lack of knowledge about the inclement weather conditions in England now leaves a lot to be pondered. With this being the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship, the summit clash has not turned out to a spectacle it should have been.

With the ICC looking to have more editions of the tournament in the near future, it will be interesting to see what lessons they learn from their lack of awareness about staging the WTC 2019-21 final.

Meanwhile, currently, the game stands with New Zealand trailing by 116 runs from India’s first innings score of 217. The Kiwis are 101/2 at the end of day 4.
