WTC Points Table: Updated ICC World Test Championship Points Table After ENG vs AUS 4th Test: The fourth Test between Pat Cummins-led Australia National Cricket Team and Ben Stokes-led England National Cricket Team ended in a draw after the rain played spoilsport in the match at the Old Trafford in Manchester.

Ben Stokes won the toss and invited the Aussies to have a go with the bat first. The visitors were once again off to a poor start as opener Usman Khawaja was cleaned up for 3 and David Warner walked back to the hut for 32.

The rest of the players of the star-studded batting line-up got starts but all of them failed miserably to convert it into big scores. Marnus Labuschagne, who had a tricky start to the Ashes 2023, hit his first half-century while comeback man Mitchell Marsh also contributed good 51 runs.

Among the tailenders, it was Mitchell Starc who once again showed his batting prowess with 36 runs in his bag as the visitors finished at 317 in 90.2 overs.

Chris Woakes shined with his spectacular 5-wicket haul while Stuart Broad picked up two wickets. Also, James Anderson, Mark Wood, and Moeen Ali got one wicket each.

England Post 592 On The Board

Batting in their first innings, England lost opener Ben Duckett for 1, but what came next was a nightmare for the Australian bowlers. Zak Crawley alongside Moeen Ali and Joe Root completely decimated the tourists with their Bazball approach. Zak Crawley played one of the best innings of the series and scored sensational 189 runs while Moeen Ali and Joe Root scored outstanding 54 and 84 runs.

Then Harry Brook and Ben Stokes continued batting brilliantly and scored half-centuries before Jonny Bairstow hammered the Australian bowlers all over the park, scoring unbeaten 99 runs at an amazing strike rate of 122.22.

As England remained true to their Bazball approach they posted humongous 592 runs on the board. With 6 out of the top 7 batters scoring 50-plus runs in the match, England managed to enter the history books. It was only the second instance in the history of the Ashes that six out of England’s top seven scored 50-plus runs in an innings. It was also the first time since 1985 at Edgbaston that the Three Lions went past the 500 runs total in a home Ashes Test.

As Australia came out to bat in their second innings, express pacer Mark Wood destroyed the Australian top-order with his bouncers and picked crucial wickets of Usman Khawaja, Steve Smith, and Travis Head, leaving the visitors reeling at 113/4 at stumps on Day 3.

Thanks to Marnus Labuschagne’s sensational century and his partnership 103-run with Mitchell Marsh that the visitors were able to recover and make a little comeback in the innings. However, after the dismissal of Marnus Labuschagne for 111 things once again started to look bad for Australia as they were still trailing by 60-plus runs.

At tea on Day 4 the score was 214/5 in 71 overs with all-rounders Marsh (31) and Cameron Green (3) batting in the middle. There was no more action possible on the day as rain interrupted the play and the rest of the day was washed out.

Meanwhile, the final day of the match was entirely washed out due to continuous rain at the venue. Along with the match, rain also washed out England’s Ashes hopes as the hosts despite being in a dominant position in the match found themselves in a helpless situation and the rain had the final say in Manchester. Australia also retained the Ashes with a draw. The Kennington Oval in London is set to host the Ashes finale this year. The match will be played from July 27 to 31.
