Yashasvi Jaiswal afraid of 'Pakistan demolishers' Bangladesh? Batter's cautious response says it all

Young Team India opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal is excited about the upcoming home Test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand. Yashasvi Jaiswal stated that he wants to perform well in the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024 ahead of the five Test matches on home soil in the next two months.

The 22-year-old made his Test debut for India in July last year. Jaiswal then became a consistent performer in Test cricket. He has scored more than 1,000 runs in just nine Tests at an impressive average of 68.53, including three centuries. The southpaw is part of Team B in the 2024 Duleep Trophy.

He is in second place among the leading run-getters in the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle. The left-handed batter is the only Indian cricketer to cross the 100-run mark in the ongoing WTC cycle. England batter Joe Root leads the chart with 1,373 runs in 16 Tests at an average of 63.65.

In an interaction with JioCinema, Yashasvi Jaiswal said that he loves participating in domestic tournaments like the Duleep and Ranji Trophies. He described the Duleep Trophy 2024 as a valuable opportunity and is determined to give his best performance.

“It’s a great opportunity whenever we have the chance to play the Duleep or Ranji Trophy. I’m really looking forward to that, and I hope I’ll enjoy my game. I’ll try my best,” Jaiswal told Jiocinema.

The Mumbai batter emphasized that he wants to maintain consistency in his performance. He stated that hard work, regular practice, and preparation are key to improving his results. Jaiswal also mentioned that he avoids overthinking.

“I have worked hard to keep up my form and continue to do so to ensure I maintain it. The more consistent I stay with my practice and preparation; my results will improve,” Jaiswal commented.

On maintaining consistency as a player, “I don’t overthink, I just need to prepare well and keep improving myself as a player. The more I repeat these steps, the better I’ll get,” he added.

The opening batter also said that he is looking forward to the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh. Jaiswal acknowledged that Bangladesh is in good form. He concluded by saying he wanted to challenge them in the series.

On facing Bangladesh in the upcoming test series, “I think they’ve been playing well. It’ll be fun to match up with them, it’s fun to play Test matches regardless. I’m really looking forward to that,” he concluded.

Yashasvi Jaiswal started the Duleep Trophy with 30 runs but couldn’t capitalize on his start. He will be eager to score big in the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, which is set to begin at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on September 19.
