Yashasvi Jaiswal Becomes Joint-Fastest Indian To 1000 First-Class Runs As West Zone Eye Duleep Trophy Title

At the SNR College Cricket Ground, after overnight double-centurion Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for 265 runs, prolific run-scorer Sarfaraz Khan hammered out a magnificent, unbeaten century (127 off 178 balls) to keep West on the attack.

By reaching the milestone in just his 13th innings, he joined Amol Muzumdar and Rusi Modi as the fastest Indians to 1000 first-class runs.

South Zone 327 (Indrajith 118, Unadkat 4-52) and 154 for 6 (Kunnummal 93, Mulani 2-24, Unadkat 2-26, Sheth 2-29) trail West Zone 270 (Patel 98, Sai Kishore 5-86) and 585 for 4 dec (Jaiswal 265, Sarfaraz 127*, Iyer 71, Sai Kishore 2-157) by 375 runs

West Zone set South Zone an impossible win goal of 529 in the Duleep Trophy final in Coimbatore on Saturday, and they narrowly missed it by eliminating South Zone’s top and middle order.

South Zone was facing a crushing defeat as they trailed by 375 runs and were reeling at 154 for 6 at the end of the fourth and penultimate day.

After handing their opponents a 57-run advantage in the first inning, West Zone scored a massive 585 for 4 in the second inning.

Yashasvi Jaiswal matches the record with Rusi Modi and Amol Muzumdar, who also achieved the milestone in the same amount of innings.

Before the Duleep Trophy final began, Jaiswal had played 11 innings and scored 749 runs. The left-handed batsman made 265 runs in the second innings after scoring one run in each of the first two innings.

West Zone were 376 for 3 at the conclusion of the third day of play, and Jaiswal had batted 209 out of 244 balls. Jaiswal continued his day where he had left off the previous evening, adding seven more outfield goals to the 23 that he had already made.

Jaiswal eventually fell to offspinner K Gowtham after facing 330 deliveries and adding 164 runs for the fourth wicket with Sarfaraz.

This is Jaiswal’s second double ton in this year’s Duleep Trophy. In first-class cricket, Jaiswal has scored five hundreds and one fifty.
