Yashasvi Jaiswal has etched his name into the record books on Saturday, October 26, in the ongoing second Test between India and New Zealand at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) stadium in Pune. He became the fastest Indian batter to reach 1000 runs in Test cricket at home.
The 22-year-old batting sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal achieved this remarkable milestone during India’s second innings on Day 3 of the ongoing second Test match against New Zealand at the MCA Stadium in Pune.
Yashasvi Jaiswal sets new benchmark in Test Cricket
Yashasvi Jaiswal reached the landmark of 1000 Test runs at home in just 1315 balls, shattering the previous record held by the legendary Virender Sehwag, who took 1436 balls to achieve this feat.
Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma is the third player on the elite list, having crossed the 1000-run mark in 1506 balls. Yashasvi Jaiswal's explosive batting style and remarkable consistency have made him a fan favorite, and this latest record only cements his status as one of the brightest young talents.
Meanwhile, very few players achieved the milestone of crossing 1000 runs in home Tests within a single calendar year, and legends like Gundappa Vishwanath and Sunil Gavaskar set the bar in 1979. Graham Gooch joined the elite club in 1990, followed by Australia’s Justin Langer in 2004.
Michael Clarke leads the elite list of 1000 Test runs in calendar year
Pakistan’s Mohammad Yousuf, with his flowing technique, outdid them all in 2006 by scoring 1126 runs in home Tests in a calendar year. And Australia’s Michael Clarke took it to even greater heights in 2012, with an astonishing 1407 runs at home in the traditional format of the game.
Now, Yashasvi Jaiswal joined these legends, reaching the fashionable 1000-run mark and etching his name alongside icons of the game. His journey has been one of resilience and flair, a young star finding his rhythm on the grandest stage. He is the next superstar for Indian cricket.
Speaking about the Pune Test, Team India has made an early statement that New Zealand’s bowlers are under serious pressure. Yashasvi Jaiswal started really well but could not escape from Mitchell Santner’s spin trap, dismissing for 77 runs off 65 balls in the ongoing Pune Test.
India on the verge of facing a humiliating Test series loss to New Zealand
Later, Shubman Gill (23) and Virat Kohli (17) showed some form, but yet again Santner proved too costly for the Indian cricket team, removing both batters. Rishabh Pant was also run out for a duck but by the Kiwi pacer, who later got the batter of Sarfaraz Khan for just 9 runs off 15 balls.
The hosts are currently in real danger of losing their first Test series to New Zealand at home, having lost six wickets for just 165 runs at the MCA Stadium in Pune. India prepared the turner with an aim to bounce back in the ongoing Test series, but it backfired badly.
The Kiwis are making the most of the spinning conditions in India, and Santner has been sensational as he single-handedly dismantled the Indian batting unit.
