Mumbai have suffered a major setback in their Ranji Trophy 2025-26 campaign, losing two key players for the rest of the season. After former skipper Ajinkya Rahane pulled out of upcoming matches, opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal has also been ruled out for the second half of the domestic red-ball tournament.

Mumbai will resume their Ranji Trophy campaign on January 22, with two league matches left in the season. They will travel for an away fixture against Hyderabad from January 22 to 25. After that, Mumbai will return home to face Delhi in their final league match at the MCA-BKC ground from January 29 to February 1.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Unavailable for Remaining Ranji Trophy 2025-26 Matches

Yashasvi Jaiswal will not play for Mumbai in the rest of the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season. The 24-year-old opener will remain unavailable for the two matches.

Jaiswal last played for Mumbai against Rajasthan at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur from November 1 to 4, 2025. The match ended in a draw. He scored 67 runs off 97 balls in the first innings and followed it with 156 runs off 174 balls in the second.

Jaiswal is currently part of India’s ODI squad for the ongoing series against New Zealand. He is not included in the T20I squad for the five-match series or the T20 World Cup 2026. He will next be seen in action during IPL 2026, where he will represent Rajasthan Royals.

Ajinkya Rahane and Yashasvi Jaiswal Unavailable for Remaining Ranji Trophy Matches

Mumbai are at the top of Elite Group D in the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 with three wins and two draws from five matches. They are also the most successful side in the tournament’s history, having won 42 titles.

A senior MCA official confirmed that Ajinkya Rahane and Yashasvi Jaiswal will miss Mumbai’s remaining two Ranji Trophy matches. The official stated that Rahane is unavailable due to personal reasons.

“Both Rahane and Jaiswal are not available for the remaining two matches of the Ranji Trophy season," a senior MCA official was quoted as saying by PTI on Saturday.

“Rahane will not be available due to personal reasons," the official added.

Ajinkya Rahane had a mixed season with the bat. Apart from a knock of 159 runs against Chhattisgarh in the second match, his returns were modest. He scored 209 runs across six innings, finishing with an average of 34.83.

Mumbai Turn to Youth After Vijay Hazare Trophy Exit

Mumbai’s Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign ended with a 55-run loss to Karnataka in the quarterfinals. Following that early exit and with senior players no longer available, the focus has shifted to younger options ahead of the upcoming red-ball fixtures.

As preparations begin for the next phase of the Ranji Trophy, Suved Parkar and Sairaj Patil have been added to the Mumbai squad.

However, the final and complete squad list is yet to be announced. With Ajinkya Rahane and Yashasvi Jaiswal unavailable, Mumbai are looking to reshape their lineup for the Ranji Trophy.
