Yashasvi Jaiswal on the brink of breaking Sachin Tendulkar's mammoth record In Adelaide Test

India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is on the verge of breaking the record of Sachin Tendulkar for the most no. of runs scored in a calendar year by an Indian batter in Test cricket. Jaiswal currently has 1280 runs to his name in 12 Tests played in the year 2024 so far.

This year has been fabulous for the young India opener who has scored runs consistently. Since the start of the year, Jaiswal has carried India's hopes on his young shoulders and has amassed loads of runs.

He top-scored in the home Test series against England earlier this year and was one of the few shining lights during India's disappointing home Test series against New Zealand. Recently, he struck a magnificent 161 during the Perth Test to take India to a memorable win.

Yashasvi Jaiswal on the verge of breaking Sachin Tendulkar's record

With 1280 runs in 12 Tests in 2024 so far, Yashasvi Jaiswal is currently tenth on the list of most runs scored by an Indian in Tests within a year. The legendary Sachin Tendulkar tops the list with 1562 runs in 14 Tests at an average of 78.10. Tendulkar achieved this feat in 2010.

India is due to play three more Tests this year, all in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. Yashasvi Jaiswal is likely to feature in all of them, barring any injuries. The young left-hander needs 283 runs in the upcoming three Tests to become India's highest run-getter in Test cricket within a calendar year.

Jaiswal has a good chance of achieving this milestone given the form he is in. He has been extremely consistent with the bat and has shown the hunger to get big scores. The youngster has a golden chance to surpass some of the legendary Indian players on this list.

Some of the few legendary Indian names in this list above Yashasvi Jaiswal are Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Sunil Gavaskar, Gundappa Vishwanath, Rahul Dravid, and Virat Kohli. Jaiswal can surpass Virat Kohli if he scores 43 runs in this innings.

Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal made a superb comeback in the second innings of the Perth Test after being dismissed for a duck in the first innings. The left-hander was at his usual best during the innings and helped India reach a formidable total.

The opener scored 161 off 297 balls, which included 15 fours and 3 sixes. It was a magnificent innings filled with patience and determination. Usually known for his aggressive batting, Jaiswal ground it out in the middle with his defensive technique.

He also took on the bowlers and put them on the backfoot whenever there was a bad ball. He stitched great partnerships with KL Rahul and Devdutt Padikkal during his knock. His innings helped India post a mammoth 487-6 in the second innings. Virat Kohli also scored a brilliant unbeaten hundred.

In reply, Australia were bundled out for just 238 with Indian bowlers not giving them any chance to come back into the match. As a result, India won the match by 295 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
