Yashasvi Jaiswal placed on Sachin Tendulkar's pedestal by Ex-Australian Head Coach

Former Australia head coach Darren Lehmann heaped praise on Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal following his century during the BGT 2024-25 series opener in Perth. Darren Lehmann predicted that Yashasvi Jaiswal is going to go down as one of the greatest Indian batters and added that it's a big call early.

Jaiswal was the standout performer for India in the ongoing Test match against Australia in Perth. The left-handed batter was dismissed for a duck in the first innings but bounced back with a sensational century in the second innings. He reached the milestone on the third day, Sunday, November 24.

The southpaw remained unbeaten on 90 at stumps on Day 2 and it didn’t take long for him to bring up his century on Day 3. He reached his fourth Test century with a six off Josh Hazlewood in the 62nd over. This was also his maiden Test century in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia).

Darren Lehmann said that it's a great hundred from Yashasvi Jaiswal, adding that he has put India right on top in the second innings with a well-deserved century.

"It's a great hundred from the young man. He's absolutely over the moon. And why wouldn't you be? Well played, well deserved. He's put India right on top," Lehmann said.

Darren Lehmann drew parallels between Yashasvi Jaiswal and legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. Lehmann said that Jaiswal, like Tendulkar in his early days, showed maturity and composure, especially on a challenging pitch in Perth. He added that Jaiswal will have a long and successful career.

"He's going to go down as one of the greatest. It's a big call early, but you see someone like Sachin Tendulkar, a generational player, came to Perth and made a hundred. I mean, it was against Merv Hughes, who was a pretty grumpy fast bowler and at the height of his powers. Sachin had just started and got a great hundred in Perth," Lehmann stated.

"And you see that with this young man. I'll say it again, at least this time, he has more time to play his shots. He could probably play three or four different shots to a particular ball and change his mind mid-stroke. He's just got everything going for him as a young player would have. Learned from his mistake in the first innings. That's his first Test match in Australia. It's also in Perth on a fast, bouncy track. I mean, he's going to play a lot of cricket, and he'll break a lot of records."

KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal Added 201-Run Partnership for First Wicket

India opted to bat first in the Perth Test but was bowled out for just 150 on Day 1. However, their bowlers, led by Jasprit Bumrah's five-wicket haul, reduced Australia to 104. The visiting team took a crucial 46-run first innings lead.

In the second innings, openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul formed a 201-run partnership. Rahul was dismissed for 77, while Jaiswal continued with his 150 runs. At the time of writing, India was 301/2, with Jaiswal (165) and Virat Kohli (10) at the crease during the post-lunch session on the third day.
