The Mumbai cricket team received a major boost as Yashasvi Jaiswal will be available for their crucial Ranji Trophy 2024-25 semifinal against Vidarbha, starting February 17 at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur.

After being overlooked for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Yashasvi Jaiswal will now focus on helping Mumbai defend their Ranji Trophy, as he is presently gearing up for a rematch of last season’s final.

However, the young Indian opener has been named as a "non-traveling reserve" in India’s squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, but he would only be called to Dubai if the need arises in the tournament.

Apart from Yashasvi, Shivam Dube and Mohammed Siraj have also been added as the “non-traveling reserve” for the upcoming eight-nation tournament.

Mumbai gets a big boost as Yashasvi Jaiswal confirms availability for the Ranji Trophy Semifinal

Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) secretary Abhay Hadap was quoted as saying by Times of India: “This morning, Jaiswal confirmed to me that he's available for the Ranji Trophy semifinal against Vidarbha. I have accordingly informed the selectors about the same.”

In his only Ranji Trophy 2024-25 appearance, Yashasvi Jaiswal managed to score 4 and 26 as Mumbai suffered a five-wicket loss to Jammu & Kashmir at the MCA ground in BKC.

However, the left-handed batter was in brilliant form on the recent Australia tour, and Mumbai’s chief selector, Sanjay Patil, stressed that Yashasvi Jaiswal will have to deliver a strong performance to help Mumbai reach the Ranji final.

He said that Yashasvi’s presence would not be enough for Mumbai; he has to deliver with the bat. Sanjay Patil said, “My message for Yashasvi is clear. His mere availability for the match is not enough. He has to perform well and help Mumbai win the game.”

Meanwhile, Jaiswal’s availability is a big boost for Mumbai, but there is uncertainty over the availability of Suryakumar Yadav for the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 semifinal against Vidarbha. India’s T20 captain suffered a wrist injury during Mumbai’s quarterfinal against Haryana.

The 34-year-old had scored 9 and a crucial knock of 70 runs off 86 balls to help Mumbai beat Haryana by 152 runs and make it to the semifinals of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25.

Despite the concerns over Suryakumar Yadav’s availability, the Mumbai selectors retained the same squad that played against Haryana, with the team set to travel to Nagpur on February 14.

Suryakumar Yadav’s fate depends on MRI report

Well, Suryakumar Yadav’s availability for the semifinal depends on the condition of his wrist injury. It is being said that the Mumbai Cricket Association's (MCA) medical team is still waiting for the results of the Indian skipper’s MRI scan before making a final decision on his participation.

The source revealed, “The MCA's medical team is awaiting the results of his wrist's MRI scan.” Suryakumar recently led the Men in Blue to a 4-1 T20I series win over England at home. However, he was not part of India’s ODI squad, as he was also overlooked for the upcoming ICC mega event.
