India ODI skipper Rohit Sharma reportedly convinced opener Yashasvi Jaiswal not to switch to Goa for the upcoming domestic season. Mumbai Cricket Association president Ajinkya Naik stated that Rohit urged Jaiswal to stay loyal to the team that gave him the platform to showcase his talent and build his career.

Earlier this year, during IPL, Jaiswal had requested a No Objection Certificate from the MCA after receiving a captaincy offer from Goa. However, Jaiswal later reversed his decision and asked the MCA to withdraw the NOC, confirming his intent to continue representing Mumbai in the 2025-26 season.

Rohit highlighted the pride and legacy of playing for a team with a rich history like Mumbai, which has won 42 Ranji titles. After also consulting other Mumbai and India players, Jaiswal decided to remain with Mumbai, and the MCA approved his request to withdraw the NOC for the Goa move.

"Rohit asked Yashasvi to stay on in Mumbai at this stage of his career - he explained to Yashasvi that there was a lot of pride & Prestige in playing for a team like Mumbai which has won 42 Ranji titles - Rohit also told Yashasvi that he must not forget that it was Mumbai Cricket that he got a platform to show his talent and must be grateful to the city for that," Naik said as quoted by Mumbai Mirror.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Made His First-Class Debut for Mumbai in the 2019 Season

Yashasvi Jaiswal made his first-class debut for Mumbai in 2019. The 23-year-old has scored 4,233 runs in 43 first-class matches at an impressive average of 56.44, including 15 centuries and 15 fifties. He recorded scores of 113, 122, 203, and an unbeaten 60 during the 2019 Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Jaiswal played a full season for the first time in the 2021–22 Ranji Trophy, where he scored three consecutive centuries to help Mumbai reach the final. His domestic success paved the way for an IPL stint with Rajasthan Royals (RR) and a call-up to the national side.

He last represented Mumbai in the latter half of the 2024–25 Ranji season following a BCCI directive prioritizing domestic cricket. However, he managed only 4 and 26 in a five-wicket defeat in the Elite Group A match against Jammu and Kashmir.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Last Seen in Action in Test Series Against England

Jaiswal was last seen in action during the five-match Test series against England. He was one of India's key performers in the series, finishing with 411 runs from 10 innings at an average of 41.10, including two centuries and two half-centuries.

The left-handed batter scored 118 runs in the final Test at The Oval, helping the team post a competitive target for England in the final innings.

The southpaw had a low score in the first innings at Headingley. However, he bounced back with a century in the second innings. Although he failed to score at Lord's, he scored a crucial fifty in the fourth Test. He played a significant role in helping India draw the series 2-2.
