Former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh has challenged the new generation of players like Ayush Mhatre and the teen prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi to shine in Test cricket, which he believes is the toughest and most respected format of the game.

However, the legendary Indian all-rounder’s father, who is known for his fiery views and tough-love approach, challenged the youngsters to build the kind of fitness and mental strength needed to survive the intense grind of five-day matches.
He emphasized that the glamour of T20 can make stars overnight, but only Test cricket creates legends.
Yograj noted that it’s not just about quick runs but also about showing patience and skill over a long period, saying the red-ball game is the true test to determine a player’s ability.

Yograj Singh was quoted as saying by InsideSport, “My vision is Test cricket. Can you survive five days? That’s the real test. 50 overs—fair enough. 20 overs—fair enough. I don’t go by these formats.:
"But since they (formats) are there, you should be fit enough to play all three formats. Why do you struggle? Because you are only concentrating on T20, IPL, and 50 overs. That’s the way we are.”
The former Indian bowler has criticized the modern-day coaches for making big decisions while sitting in AC rooms.
He said that many of them don't step out to see what's happening on the ground, but he trains young cricketers under the hot sun in Chandigarh.
