'You also question his thoughts' - Shreyas Iyer's no-nonsense verdict on 'mentor' Gautam Gambhir

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Shreyas Iyer lavished rich praise on the mentor Gautam Gambhir for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 win. He said that when the former India skipper joined the franchise, he knew the importance of him as he is always spot on. 

Kolkata Knight Riders under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer and the mentorship of Gautam Gambhir won the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. They were dominant throughout the entire tournament as they clinched their third title. 

Gautam Gambhir played an instrumental role in Kolkata Knight Riders winning their third title in the league. He was roped in by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2024 and he made sure that he made an immediate impact and took his team to glory. 

Gautam Gambhir changed the fortunes of the teams with his plans. He promoted Sunil Narine to the top and that move turned out to be a game-changer. The all-rounder smacked close to 500 runs and potentially his contribution at the top was the difference maker for the team. 

While it was Gautam Gambhir, who was the main man behind the scenes, it was Shreyas Iyer, who led the team magnificently well on the field. The batter led the side magnificently well and the way he rotated the bowlers was tremendous. It was a proper team effort from the Kolkata Knight Riders as almost every player contributed.

Shreyas Iyer while talking about the importance of Gautam Gambhir in the Kolkata Knight Riders highlighted that he played with him earlier and lauded the mentor for his attitude. Speaking on his YouTube channel, he explained: 

“Gautam Gambhir, when he was announced that he is part of the KKR family. I knew the importance of him because I have played with him in the past and the character and attitude he possesses as an individual, it's simply second to none.”

He is proactive - Shreyas Iyer on Gautam Gambhir 

Shreyas Iyer further called Gautam Gambhir proactive and added that the mentor is well aware of how the game is played. He admitted that sometimes his thoughts are questionable but the former KKR player is always spot on. He added: 

“He is someone who is proactive, enterprising in terms of his thought process.  He knows how the game is being played and to be under his guidance, you learn a lot. You also question at times about his thoughts, but the majority of the times he is spot on.”

Kolkata Knight Riders won 9 games in the league stage and then dominated the playoffs. They thumped Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Qualifier 1 and then the final to win the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. With the way they played the entire tournament, they looked like favorites to win right from the start. They were in the upper half of the table right from the start and played a dominant brand of cricket.
