Prasidh Krishna has received some much-needed support from former India pacer Ashish Nehra after enduring a tough time in the ongoing five-match T20I series against Australia.
On Friday (December 1), he was dropped from the playing eleven after being taken to the cleaners in each of the first three games. His economy-rate in the series is 13.25. In the series-opener in Vizag, he conceded 50 runs in his 4 overs while picking up one wicket. Fortunately for him, India had gone on to win the game by chasing down 209 runs.
In the second game in Thiruvananthapuram, the right-arm pacer picked up 3 wickets although he conceded 41 runs in 4 overs. India won the second game too while defending a huge total of 235. And in the third game, Prasidh Krishna ended up registering the worst bowling figures by an Indian bowler in the shortest format of the game.
He conceded 68 runs without picking up a wicket as Australia chased down a record total of 222 runs in Guwahati. The Karnataka star failed to defend 21 runs in the final over and 16 runs on the last 4 balls as Glenn Maxwell took him to the cleaners.
Ashish Nehra backs Prasidh Krishna:
Prasidh Krishna has faced severe criticism for his poor bowling in the series. He has also been written off by many after struggling against Australia. However, Ashish Nehra has thrown his support behind the bowler and has backed him to bounce back.
Ashish Nehra began by highlighting the pacer’s long injury layoff that saw him remain on the sidelines for almost a year. He also tipped him as a future star for India, saying: “You are talking about a guy who has not played much cricket. But there’s no shortage of talent when you talk of someone like Prasidh Krishna. He’s definitely one of India’s future stars and let’s hope that from here he’s only going to get better.
“He’s someone who can bowl a good yorker. I know it’s difficult to bowl on a wet ground and a flat pitch, but in these kinds of situations, you definitely back your yorker,” added Ashish Nehra while speaking on JioCinema.
Meanwhile, India defeated Australia by 20 runs in the fourth T20I to clinch the series with a match to go. Asked to bat first, India scored 174/9 before restricting the visitors to 154/7.
