You Did A Splendid Job For India And Never Bowed Down - Syed Kirmani Praises Wriddhiman Saha
Former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Syed Kirmani lauded 37-year-old wicket-keeper, Wriddhiman Saha for his service after the latter was reportedly told that he was not needed in the Indian team anymore.
KS Bharat is being groomed as the backup to the regular keeper, Rishabh Pant. Therefore, Saha has been pushed out of the team and as a result, he has decided to skip the Ranji Trophy season as well.
“You did a splendid job for India and never bowed down in these years, which is commendable. You are dropped because you did not belong to any particular group, you are a victim of politics. I will remember you as a very fine wicketkeeper.”
“No doubt, Wriddhi is still the best wicketkeeper. But Rishabh Pant is getting chances for his aggressive batting. Even at 37, Wriddhi is still the best wicketkeeper. He should not get upset. Dinesh Karthik and Parthiv Patel were also replaced in the same fashion,” Kirmani said to Mid-Day.
“At present, I’m just not thinking of retirement” – Wriddhiman Saha
Saha confirmed that he has no intentions of resigning from the game. Despite going out of favor with the national team selectors, the 37-year-old wants to play his cards close to his chest and will think about his future after the Test squad against Sri Lanka is announced.
“I’ve always been someone who follows the protocol, and I’ll always go by that. Till the (Indian) squad (for the two-Test series versus Sri Lanka) is announced, I will refrain from saying anything. Because that’s what I’ve been doing throughout.”
“Besides, the people who are spreading news and making claims about my future should be able to say it better. At present, I’m just not thinking of retirement. It’s completely my decision as to how long I’ll continue and when I’ll hang up my boots,” Saha told The Telegraph.
