We knew it was going to be a high-scoring game - Hardik Pandya

Bowling first in the match, Mumbai Indians did a great job and reduced Chennai Super Kings to 176/5, with Jasprit Bumrah being the top performer with 2 wickets under his belt.

Chasing the target, Ryan Rickelton fell early for 24 runs, but Rohit Sharma (76*) and Suryakumar Yadav (68*) batted exceptionally and built a solid 114-run stand to steer MI to a win in 15.4 overs.

Speaking during the post-match presentation ceremony, the MI skipper Hardik Pandya said that they were aware of the fact that the Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings match would be a high-scoring one. Hardik Pandya said:

"The way I think we are playing the sport, we knew it was going to be a high-scoring game and we took the percentage."

You don't have to worry about Rohit's form - Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya further said that the team management was not worried about the form of Rohit Sharma and lavished rich praise on him as well as Suryakumar Yadav. He said:

"You don't have to worry about Rohit's form, when he comes good, we know the opposition will be out of the game and the way Surya batted it was great as well, that partnership took the game away."

Hardik Pandya, at last, said that they are sticking to the basics and playing simple cricket to achieve success.

"We are sticking to basics. We are playing simple cricket and we are sticking to our plans. On the hindsight yes, an over or two could have come but we were running behind. At the end of the day, 175-180 was below-par. I think we weren't really far away from a win but we had to put things together," Hardik Pandya said.

How did MI perform in the previous IPL match against CSK?

Mumbai Indians endured a tough start to their IPL 2025 campaign as they suffered a four-wicket defeat to Chennai Super Kings on March 23 at Chepauk.

After being invited to bat first, Mumbai never found their rhythm after losing Rohit Sharma for a duck in the first over. Ryan Rickelton and Will Jacks started well but couldn’t build on their starts.

Tilak Varma’s 31 runs and Suryakumar Yadav’s 29 runs were the only notable contributions from the MI batters, while the bowling all-rounder Deepak Chahar's late fireworks of 28 runs powered Mumbai Indians' total of 155/9.

Defending the score, Mumbai Indians started off well as Deepak Chahar removed Rahul Tripathi in the second over itself. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra then launched a counterattack on the MI batters, but debutant Vignesh Puthur brought MI back into the game with an incredible spell of 3/32.

Mumbai Indians bowlers gave their all but were unable to dismiss Rachin Ravindra, who stood strong at one and, with his unbeaten 65-run knock, took the Chennai Super Kings past the finish line in 19.1 overs.
