“You Should Be The First One To Get 100 100s” - Sachin Tendulkar Recalls John Wright’s Staggering Prediction

Batting great Sachin Tendulkar recalled an interesting prediction by former New Zealand player John Wright. He said that the ex-Kiwi player a long time ago predicted that he would get 100 centuries in international cricket and it is something he never imagined.

Regarded as one of the best players in the game, he has shattered every record related to batting.

He recently recalled a prediction from John Wright, who on a flight one told him that he will go on to score 100 centuries. Speaking on Cricbuzz, he said:

“I never thought it would happen, I was never thinking about it. A long time ago, John Wright had actually told me on a flight, ‘you should be the first one to get 100 100s’. I told him, ‘John, what are you talking’. He said ‘I’m not joking’. Genuinely I was not thinking about it.”

“Anxiety was there and somehow it was not happening” – Sachin Tendulkar on the wait between his 99th and 100th century

The journey from the 99th to the 100th century seemed like an eternity for Sachin Tendulkar as he went 21 Test innings and 12 ODIs without registering a ton. What was interesting was he got out twice in the 90s during that innings. He then finally made his century of hundreds when he score a ton against Bangladesh in Asia Cup in 2012.

Sachin talked about his wait between his 99th and 100th century and he had anxiety about not reaching the milestone.

He elaborated: “Wherever I went, people only spoke about it. Anxiety was there and somehow it was not happening. I was batting well, I got close to it a few times but it was elusive. Obviously, when you come so close to it and if it is not happening, you want to do it.

“Batters want to score runs and that’s exactly what was happening with me. I was scoring runs but the 100 was kind of elusive. It could have happened during the (2011) World Cup but it happened one year down the line.”

Sachin Tendulkar is currently the part of Mumbai Indians coaching set-up in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. He will be next seen in action when the team will take on Gujarat Titans (GT) in their next game on Tuesday (24th April).
