Yuvraj Singh invites Shikhar Dhawan to play in major tournament post-retirement

Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh has shared a post congratulating his former teammate Shikhar Dhawan after his retirement from international and domestic cricket. Yuvraj Singh said that it was a pleasure to have shared the dressing room with Shikhar Dhawan for the Indian national cricket team.

Shikhar Dhawan announced his retirement through his official social media handles on Saturday, August 24. The left-handed batter represented the national team in 34 Tests, 267 ODIs, and 68 T20I matches. He scored 10,867 runs in international cricket with the help of 24 centuries and 55 half-centuries.

Yuvraj Singh took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share pictures with Shikhar Dhawan. Singh praised Dhawan for his fearless knocks, especially in his favorite ICC tournaments. The former all-rounder said that Dhawan gave more than 100% on and off the field during his career.

"Congrats on a fantastic career, Jatt Ji! Pleasure to have shared the dressing room with someone as lively as you! You’ve always made the most of every chance, giving more than 100% on and off the field," Yuvraj wrote.

"Your fearless knocks, especially in your favourite ICC tournaments and match-winning performances across all formats have made you the real “gabbar” that the oppositions feared!," he added.

Yuvraj Singh acknowledged Shikhar Dhawan's impressive achievements, adding that he should be proud of everything he’s accomplished. Singh welcomed Dhawan to the next phase of his life and invited him to the World Championship of Legends, an event for retired players.

"These are some rare feats and you should be proud of everything you’ve achieved 🔥 welcome to the other side! Aao legends khediye 👊🏻👍🏻 Go well, brother! Rab rakha. @SDhawan25 #ShikharDhawan," Yuvraj concluded.

Shikhar Dhawan's Impressive Stats In International And Franchise Cricket

Dhawan made his debut for India in an ODI against Australia in 2010. The southpaw last played for India in an ODI match against Bangladesh in 2022. He scored 6,793 runs in 167 ODIs at an average of 44.11 with 17 centuries. The left-handed batter scored 2,315 runs in 34 Tests and 1,759 runs in 68 T20Is.

The 38-year-old announced his retirement weeks before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. He captained the Punjab Kings (PBKS) last season. Dhawan had to leave the T20 league midway last season due to a shoulder injury. He also missed several games in the 2023 season of the IPL.

Dhawan began his IPL career with Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in 2008 before moving to Mumbai Indians. The southpaw then played for the now-defunct Deccan Chargers and Sunrisers Hyderabad. He later returned to Delhi Capitals and was acquired by Punjab Kings during the IPL 2022 auction.
