"Yuvraj Singh locked up Abhishek Sharma"- Yograj Singh's revelation sends shockwaves

Former India cricketer Yograj Singh has revealed that Yuvraj Singh used to lock up Abhishek Sharma in order to train the youngster. Abhishek has impressed one and all with the batting transformation he has had in the past 12 months or so.

While the youngster has been playing in the IPL since 2018, he did not make a big impact in the tournament until 2024.

He smashed 484 runs at a strike-rate of over 204, including a record 42 sixes. Before that season, he had not managed to hit more than 13 sixes in an IPL season.

The impressive campaign for SRH also earned him his maiden India call-up, and Abhishek Sharma has grabbed the opportunity with both hands. In 17 T20Is for India, he has hit more than 500 runs, including two centuries and as many fifties.

Yuvraj Singh's training method for Abhishek Sharma:

Yuvraj Singh has played a key role in Abhishek Sharma's cricketing journey so far. The videos of the former India batsman mentoring the youngster have made the rounds on social media from time to time in the past. And Yuvraj Singh's father has revealed just how strict a coach he is.

In a recent interview, Yograj revealed that Abhishek Sharma was handed to Yuvraj Singh after the youngster's father could not handle him. He stated that Abhishek used to waste his time partying, and Yuvraj decided to lock him up.

"Party in the evening, with a girlfriend. That’s what it was, right? So what happened then? Yuvi said, 'Lock him up. ' He was handed over to Yuvi because his father couldn’t handle him anymore, so he was locked up, said Yograj.

He further said that he also heard Yuvraj scolding Abhishek for not reporting for training on time. Yograj also recalled how Yuvraj also coached Shubman Gill in the same manner. During the COVID lockdown, Yuvraj kept Abhishek and Gill in his own house and trained them.

"The same thing happened with Shubman Gill, too. When Yuvi was coaching him at PCA, Yuvi used to tell me, 'Dad, you won’t interfere'," recalled Yograj.
