Yuzvendra Chahal’s rumored girlfriend demands Shreyas Iyer’s inclusion in India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad

Actor-producer and Supreme Strikers co-owner RJ Mahvash has reacted to Shreyas Iyer’s omission from India’s squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025. During the trophy launch event of the inaugural Champions League T10, RJ Mahvash said that she would like to have Shreyas Iyer in her team.

The rumored girlfriend of Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal also spoke about the cricketer’s snub for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025. The social media influencer was seen cheering for Yuzvendra Chahal and his team, the Punjab Kings (PBKS), throughout the IPL 2025 at the stadiums.

So, when the radio jockey was asked how she felt when the Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer’s name was not there in India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad, the Supreme Strikers co-owner expressed her disappointment not only for the Mumbaiker but also for Chahal.

RJ Mahvash has openly targeted the Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir and national selectors by reminding them how the middle-order batter had been in fine form last season, scoring runs both at the highest level, IPL 2025, and in domestic cricket.

Mahvash also turned heads by mentioning how Yuzvendra Chahal, one of India’s most consistent wicket-takers in T20 cricket, was unfairly left out of the Asia Cup 2025 squad. The social media influencer also felt for Yashasvi Jaiswal, saying the young Indian opener could have added fresh energy to the squad for the upcoming continental tournament.

RJ Mahvash said on Sports Yaari, “I feel he definitely deserved a spot in the squad because he has been performing really well. And I also think Yuzi (Yuzvendra Chahal) and Yashasvi Jaiswal should have been there. Chahal is one of the top wicket-takers and absolutely deserved a place. I even heard a buzz that Iyer might be handed ODI captaincy, so let's hope for the best.”

Notably, there have been rumors that Iyer is likely to be handed India’s ODI captaincy when Rohit Sharma calls time on his career, and that big announcement is likely to be made ahead of the upcoming white-ball tour of Australia later this year.

Why Shreyas Iyer rejected West Zone's captaincy for Duleep Trophy 2025?

Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer had reportedly rejected MCA’s offer to captain West Zone in the upcoming Duleep Trophy 2025, as he expected to be picked for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025. He was training hard with his coach, Pravin Amre, but the selectors left him out of both the main squad and reserves.

This resulted in the MCA approaching Shardul Thakur, and he accepted the offer.

Notably, the West Zone are the defending champions, and they will begin their Duleep Trophy 2025 campaign straight from the semi-final, scheduled from September 4 to 7 at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. On the other hand, the Asia Cup 2025 will kick off on September 9 in the UAE.
