Bangladesh lost the ODI series against Zimbabwe 2-1 bringing an end to their tour to the African nation. The Tigers lost the T20I series 2-1 and lost the ODI series by the same margin as well. The side won the final game by 106 runs as their skipper went past 8000 ODI runs.
Bangladesh posted 256/9 batting first in the third ODI. Their bowlers bowled out the opposition for 151 earning a victory by over 100 runs. Bangladesh posted competitive scores in the first two ODIs but ended up losing both games. Sikandar Raza‘s back-to-back tons ensured Zimbabwe won both those games and the series.
Meanwhile, Tamim Iqbal defended his side’s loss in the post-match presser after the game. He said that there would not have been so many questions had the side lost to teams like India or Australia. Interestingly, Bangladesh won their last two ODI series against South Africa and West Indies heading into the series against Zimbabwe.
We Are A Serious ODI Team: Tamim Iqbal
“Look if we had lost to India or Australia or any top-ranked team like we did against Zimbabwe probably there won’t have been so many questions. If Kohli or Steve Smith played like this we would have accepted that they are top players and played like this and we didn’t have anything to do” said Tamim as quoted by Cricbuzz.
He further congratulated Zimbabwe for the cricket they played in the series saying they were the better of the two sides in these three games.
“We didn’t play to our potential and Zimbabwe was a better team in the series and there is no doubt about it and the full credit goes to Zimbabwe” Tamim further added saying.
Tamim concluded by stressing the importance of ODI cricket that they are putting on as a side. He said that they are a fantastic ODI side now and can threaten any opposition.
“I have said this before yes we have lost the series but we are a serious ODI team and even now I would say we are a fantastic ODI team and we had a great run, but the graph will not be only upwards as you have to come down and then you go up. It was great learning for us because I always say that ranking doesn’t matter” concluded the Bangladesh ODI skipper.
