The one-off Test between Ireland and Zimbabwe will be played at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo. The same venue hosted the two-match series between Zimbabwe and Afghanistan in December and January. In both the games, the surface behaved very differently.
The venue is known for producing high-scoring games and the first Test lived up to the expectations. After Zimbabwe scored 582 runs, Afghanistan had replied with 699 runs. However, in the second innings, Afghanistan had reduced Zimbabwe to 88/4 before the match eventually ended in a draw.
Unlike the first Test, batsmen struggled to get going in the second Test. One of the main reasons for it was rain. The rain helped the bowlers dominate the proceedings and as the game wore on, spinners started making a big impact. In the second innings, Rashid Khan picked up 7 wickets to fire Afghanistan to a win.
So, the pitch is likely to assist the batsmen early on and the spinners will have a bigger say in the last couple of days. Both teams will be looking to bat first and score big in order to avoid batting in the final innings of the Test.
Conclusion:
The weather report is not very promising for the ZIM vs IRE Test. While rain is likely to stay away on the first three days of the Test, it could make its presence felt on the last two days. Both teams will be keeping it in mind and plan accordingly. The rain could also make it tough for both teams to force a result.
