Right-arm pacer Tendai Chatara has been recalled into the Zimbabwe Test side for the one-off home Tests against Bangladesh after making his last appearance in the longest format in 2018.
Zimbabwe host Mominul Haque’s side for a lone Test from July 7 at the Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo; for that, they have named a 20-man squad. The Test will be followed by 3 ODIs and as many T20Is.
Tendai Chatara was also left out of the country’s limited-overs side last year but on the back of impressive shows in domestic cricket, he has made his way back to the Test side. The 30-year old seamer also led the bowling attack of the A side in the series against South Africa A last month.
Despite losing 2-0 to Pakistan at home earlier – both games by an innings – Zimbabwe have retained most of the players from that squad.
Four uncapped cricketers have been also named in the squad to take on Bangladesh – opener Takudzwanashe Kaitano and pacer Tanaka Chivanga were part of the last Test squad but did not get to play, batter Joylord Gumbie was among the reserves, and 19-year old Dion Myers, who was terrific against South Africa A.
Senior cricketers Sean Williams, Craig Ervine, and Brendan Taylor will be needed to carry the batting load; Blessing Muzarabani and Richard Ngarava are the two bowlers to watch out in the Test match.
Bangladesh also is coming off a 1-0 series loss to Sri Lanka.
