Zimbabwe could soon enter an exciting new chapter with plans for a brand-new franchise T20 league. A tournament called the Zimbabwe T20 League (ZT20) is now being planned, and it could be officially announced later this year if everything goes according to the plans.
The proposed league for Zimbabwe will be a franchise-based competition similar to other popular T20 leagues around the world. However, the tournament is still in the planning stage, and there is no official confirmation yet that it will definitely take place. US-based company behind Zimbabwe T20 League plans
As reported by Zimbabwean journalist Adam Theo, the Zimbabwe T20 League (ZT20) is being planned by Flash Sports & Media, a sports media company based in the United States. Interestingly, a former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official is involved in the idea.

Well, Flash Sports & Media first announced its plans for the Zimbabwe T20 League in June this year. The company is aiming to launch the tournament during October and November 2026, although the timeline could change depending on how quickly the remaining work is completed.
According to the proposal, the league will begin with a grand opening ceremony at the famous Victoria Falls, one of Zimbabwe's biggest tourist attractions. After the opening event, the matches are expected to be played in Harare and Bulawayo.
Flash Sports & Media has bigger plans
The company has already built its cricket business around franchise T20 tournaments. It is currently associated with the Lanka Premier League (LPL) and now wants to expand into more countries by launching leagues in Zimbabwe, Malaysia, and Singapore.
The company is headed by the chief executive officer, Kanishka Sanjeewa. Interestingly, the former BCCI CEO Rahul Johri is connected with the project. Johri has already joined Flash Sports & Media’s Board of Directors.
The former BCCI CEO played a key role in the commercial growth of Indian cricket during his time with the world’s biggest cricket board. His experience is expected to help the company as it looks to grow franchise cricket in new markets.
The tournament still waiting for official approval
Well, the Zimbabwe T20 League is still not officially confirmed. Flash Sports & Media has reportedly made it clear that the tournament has not yet got all the required regulatory approvals, with the arrangement of funding, availability of stadiums and players, and all final agreements still pending.
But the most important point is that Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has not yet made any official announcement regarding the proposed T20 league. The ZC has not confirmed any partnership with Flash Sports & Media regarding the Zimbabwe T20 League (ZT20).
Several important details are also yet to be announced, including the franchise owners, broadcast partner, sponsors, tournament schedule, and player draft. Only after these announcements are made will it become clear whether the Zimbabwe T20 League is ready to become reality.
