In a shocking incident, a teenager was beaten to death with a cricket bat by another minor at Kharida village under Hinjili police limits in Odisha. The deceased’s name is Bibhu Sethi and he was just 13-year old. According to a report in The New Indian Express, the boy told his parents that he was going to the village pond to take bath but instead went to a mango orchard nearby to play cricket with other boys.

During the game, Bibhu Sethi picked up a fight with another boy of the village. The fight got to a point where the boy hit Bibhu Sethi on his head with the bat. As soon as he was hit on the head, Bibhu Sethi fell unconscious. Seeing him profusely bleeding, other boys fled the spot and informed his parents. He was rushed to the Hinjili hospital but was declared brought dead.

Hinjili Tehsildar Gopinath Kunar, BDO Prasanna Patra and Aska SDPO Suryamani Pradhan reached the hospital and also visited the orchard where the incident took place. The boy who attacked him has been detained. Officials also expressed their surprise over the parents allowing their children to go outside despite the lockdown.

Meanwhile, cricket events all across the globe are currently suspended due to the pandemic. In normal circumstances, the Indian Premier League (IPL) would have been going on at the moment. The IPL 2020 was scheduled to start on March 29. But in the wake of the pandemic, the BCCI had to call off the league till April 15.

The way things are turning out at the moment, it would be not surprising at all if the league does not start any time soon. Apart from IPL, the other international and domestic fixtures are currently off too.
