19th December, 2006 will always bring tears to eyes of Virat Kohli as the date marks the death anniversary of his father. Virat Kohli has had a fabulous eight-year long international career till now and has scored runs in bulk and has already broken numerous records. But all these achievements have come at a cost for the Indian skipper.
Delhi were playing Karnataka in the in the super league of the Ranji Trophy and Virat who was just 18 then played an innings which in a way showed the tough character Virat possesses. Virat Kohli was unbeaten on 40 overnight and his team still needing 192 runs to avoid the follow-on.
However, the next morning brought shocking news for the youngster as he received the news of his father passing away. Virat Kohli was very close to his father and his father; Prem meant everything to him from being a friend to a guide. His father sacrificed a lot to make his kids dream come true.
The news of his father’s death numbed young Kohli. He, however, joined the squad after the cremation and rescued his team out of trouble scoring a match-saving 90. He did not speak a single word out in the middle but let his bat do the talking.
Virat Kohli is on his way to get his name on the list of all-time greats of the game as he has already scored over 15,000 international runs in his eight-year-long career.
