The year 2017 had some astonishing Test matches and series being played from the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India and Ashes, 2017 had some of the best Test teams playing against each other. However, the hosts dominated on almost all the occasions as the tourists had to face loss in the all major the Test series. Indian defeated Australia, England beat South Africa, and the Aussies have regained the Ashes at their home. The year also saw low team totals being scored.

India horrifyingly started the Border-Gavaskar as it lost the first Test in Pune against a team which was pitted to be white-washed. In the first innings of the Test, Steve O’Keefe caused havoc in the Indian batting lineup as he picked up six wickets in the innings and the hosts were bundled out for a mere 105. KL Rahul was the top scorer for the Indian team with 64 runs and the second best being Ajinkya Rahane with 13 runs.

Sri Lanka had a horrible 2017 in the limited overs format as they could win only five ODI’s throughout the year. Their Test performances were fairly decent as compared to their ODI performances as they white-washed Pakistan in the two-match Test series in the UAE. In the second innings of the second Test, the Sri Lanka team was bundled out for just 96 runs setting Pakistan a target of 316 which the hosts failed to achieve and were short by 68 runs.

The third and second spot also go to two Asian teams, i.e. Bangladesh and Pakistan. Bangladesh toured South Africa for the first time in nine years and had a disappointing beginning to their tour as they were bundled out for 90 in the second innings of the first Test and the lost by a huge margin of 333 runs. On the other hand, Pakistan’s miseries with the bat continued as they were dismissed for an embarrassing total of 81 in the second innings of the second Test.

The top spot goes to Zimbabwe team which toured South Africa for a historic four-day day/night Boxing Day Test. However, the match turned out to be a disappointment for the Zimbabwean contingent as they were bundled out for just 68 runs in the first innings.
