India got off to a horrible start in the Nidahas Trophy 2018, as they lost their captain and opener Rohit Sharma for a duck in the very first over of the match.
Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bowl in the first T20I at the R Premadasa stadium in Colombo.
India have gone into the tournament with a very young and inexperienced side.
All-rounder Vijay Shankar is making his international debut in the first T20I. Shankar is the lone all-rounder in the Indian team, as Hardik Pandya has been rested for the series after a hectic away tour to South Africa.
However, the hosts made early inroads in the match, as they removed danger man Rohit Sharma on the fourth ball of the game.
Dushmantha Chameera started the proceedings for the hosts. Chameera bowled three dot balls on the trot and then bowled a wide on the leg side.
Sharma then decided to go after the bowler and tried to clear the mid-off.
Sharma mistimed the ball, and the ball hit the toe end of the bat. Jeevan Mendis ran back and took an exceptional running catch to remove the Indian captain.
