Indian National Cricket team and Pakistan Cricket team will not clash off against each other in the group stages of both the women’s and men’s T20 World Cups in Australia in 2020. Meanwhile, International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the schedule for the showpiece event earlier today.
However, this will be the first time India and Pakistan will not face each other in the group stage of a men’s ICC event since 2011. Since then, in each of the five ICC events, the arch-rivals have played against each other and will also play in the upcoming 2019 World Cup as well. Since Pakistan and India currently sit in the first and second spot of the ICC T20 Rankings, they have found themselves in two different groups.
Eight cities and 13 venues will host the major ICC event
The men’s World T20 will see 12 teams clashing against each other for the coveted trophy. The first eight teams have already qualified for the showpiece event due to their rankings as of December 31, 2018. The rest of the four teams will have to play in the qualifying rounds played in Geelong and Hobart. Eight teams will battle it out in the qualifiers for the four final slots. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, finishing ninth and tenth in the ICC T20I Team Rankings are the two teams to take part in the qualifiers.

The remaining six teams for the First Round will come up via a qualifying tournament to be held later in 2019. A total of four teams from the First Round, two from each of Group A and Group B, will progress to the Super 12 stage.
Australia will start their campaign of the Super 12 stage of the tournament on Saturday 24 at the SCG. On the other hand, men’s defending champions Windies will begin their title defence against New Zealand on October 25. The first men’s semifinal will take place on November 11 at the Sydney Cricket Ground while Melbourne Cricket Ground will host the second clash the following night. The historic MCG will host the ICC T20 World Cup final of the even thus bringing an end to the tournament on November 15.
