The Indian Premier League has been one of the biggest T20 tournaments which are held across the globe. The tournament has attracted an audience from all over the world. Since its inception in 2008, the tournament has also provided an opportunity to youngsters to rub shoulders with some of the very best of the game. It has been the nurturing ground for young local cricketers from India. We have seen the emergence of some unknown stars from the tournament who have gon aeon to represent their national team in the future.

While it has given opportunities to both youngsters and veteran cricketers, the tournament has also ended the careers of several players. We thought of bringing to you some possible names from the Indian team who might have finished their ODI career following a mediocre performance in the IPL.

Let us now have a look at 4 Indian players whose ODI career might have ended

Ravindra Jadeja

The left-arm spinner has been quite ordinary in the recent times especially when it comes to limited overs format. He wasn’t at his best in the recently concluded IPL and failed to provide the much-needed breakthroughs when required. He did bag 3 wickets during a match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, he was far from consistent.

He last played a big tournament for India last year. His performance in the ICC Champions Trophy was pretty below-par. Even with the bat in hand, he hasn’t been able to perform consistently. Hence there are huge possibilities that he might never play an ODI again. The emergence of Kuldeep and Chahal has been pivotal in the ouster of Jadeja and Ashwin.

Ravichandran Ashwin

The off-spinner was the captain of the Kings XI Punjab squad in the recently concluded IPL. He bowled well in patches but the wicket-taking abilities weren’t quite there. He wasn’t able to unleash the magical deliveries which we saw quite often a couple of years back. Despite being the two highest ranked India bowlers in the Test format, both Jadeja and Ashwin find themselves out of the squad.

Ashwin despite being an experienced campaigner hasn’t bowled the attacking lines in limited overs cricket off late. His performance in the final of the ICC  Champions Trophy was quite ordinary too. It was Ashwin and Jadeja’s poor performance which led to their ouster from the ODI team.

There is no doubt about the fact that the national hero wo n’t be part of the Indian limited overs team again. The southpaw wasn’t even in the radar before the start of the tournament. Following the conclusion of the tournament, we can surely say that there are simply no chances of Gambhir making a comeback into the Indian squad in the limited overs format.

The southpaw started off the IPL captain as the captain of Delhi Daredevils. However, after a string of losses, he decided to step down thus handing over the captaincy duties to Shreyas Iyer. He was quite ordinary even with the bat in hand. Gambhir had to warm the benches after quitting captaincy and quite rightfully so.

It is always a great sight to see the swinging blade of Yuvraj Singh and his sensational backlift. The southpaw is one of the stylish batsmen the world has ever seen. However, there is no doubt about the fact that he is nowhere close to where he used to be even a year ago. He was pretty pathetic in the IPL and was in and out of the team for the entire course of the tournament.

Seeing his performance in the recent past I don’t have a doubt in my mind that it will take a humungous effort from Yuvraj to make a national comeback. However, you cannot rule out Yuvraj given the fighting intensity he has. Even during last year his comeback innings of 151 against England was hardly expected by any.
