David Miller of South Africa is one of those few players, who stayed with the same franchise since making the IPL debut. He used to be the backbone of Kings XI Punjab and also pushed them to the finals of the tournament in 2013.

Back then, Miller was signed up by Punjab for the 2011 IPL season for a price of $100,000. Though he didn’t feature in a single game of that season, he was a force to reckon in the next couple of seasons. However, he failed to repeat his heroics from the last 3 years, which made them release him.

Apart from those stats, the release of David Miller will help Kings XI Punjab have a massive amount in their kitty during the auctions. It would certainly help them to go for a few star players, who are entering into the tournament.

4. Mumbai Indians – Evin Lewis

The West Indian, who was a regular feature for Mumbai Indians in his debut season in 2018, couldn’t break into the side on more than three occasions in 2019. Despite being bought for a decent auction price of INR 3.8 Cr in 2018, Lewis had to warm the bench for most of the IPL in 2019.

With the likes of Rohit Sharma, Quinton de Kock and Suryakumar Yadav available in the ranks, mostly, there would be no use of him in the squad. Now, Mumbai Indians can go after an overseas all-rounder during the auction time to get the team balance right.

His inconsistency in IPL 2019 and even for the Caribbean team in the limited-overs format might have been a major factor for Mumbai releasing the swashbuckling opener ahead of the auction next month. If they still try to go for a specialist opener, they might go for Tom Banton, Jason Roy or Colin Munro.

3. Rajasthan Royals – Jaydev Unadkat

More than the game, Jaydev Unadkat has faced mental pressure because of the price tag he has got in the auction. The youngster was bought for INR 11.5 Crores by Rajasthan Royals during the mega auction after his impressive show in IPL 2017. However, it turned out to be the worst possible year for him, in fact, he was dropped from the playing XI for his poor show.

With 11 wickets in 15 games, Unadkat was probably bogged down by the expectation of a high salary he received at the IPL Player’s Auction in 2018. However, after being released initially, RR bought him back for INR 8.4 crore at the auction prior to the 2019 season, showing faith in his ability.

However, once again, he proved to be expensive buy in the Indian Premier League 2019. Certainly, it prompted them to release him, which would give the franchise a whopping INR 8.4 Crores during the time of IPL 2020 Auction.

2. Delhi Capitals – Chris Morris

One of those players, who took limelight because of the Indian Premier League. The lanky all-rounder has delivered goods for the Delhi franchise during his peak time before missing quite a few matches due to injuries.

The 30-year-old Morris made his debut for the Delhi franchise in 2016 and finished as their leading wicket-taker in that season with 13 wickets. His destructive batting down the order has always come in handy.  In total, Morris has taken 55 wickets and scored 485 runs in the IPL.

Delhi Capitals now have Rs 27.85 crores left in their purse and have 11 slots to fill ahead of IPL 2020 auction. Release of Chris Morris will allow them to have a vacancy in overseas slot or else, they might get his services once again for a cheaper price as compared to the previous deal.

1. Kolkata Knight Riders – Robin Uthappa

Robin Uthappa is one of the long-serving cricketers for Kolkata Knight Riders. However, franchise kept their feelings aside to release Robin Uthappa ahead of the auctions. Perhaps, his knock against Mumbai Indians in IPL 2019 at a crucial stage of the tournament has made KKR take the call. However, he is one of the consistent scorers in IPL with 4411 runs in 177 matches.

Kolkata Knight Riders have already got quality Indian batsmen in their lineup with the likes of Nitish Rana, Shubman Gill and skipper Dinesh Karthik. Now, the release of Robin Uthappa will allow Kolkata to go for an overseas batsman, who can turn the tables in middle-order.

Or else, they might even go for an all-rounder if they push Andre Russell above in the batting order. He was retained for INR 6.4 Crores in the previous season. Now, KKR will go with INR 36.65 crores in the kitty to spend in the auctions.
