After a brilliant performance in the tour of South Africa, Team India is all set to travel to Sri Lanka for a T20I Tri series also involving Bangladesh. The Men in Blue have been playing non-stop cricket in the last year or so. Hence it is pretty much a part of the process to give rest to the many of the senior players. Captain Kohli and MS Dhoni have been rested along with regular fast bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah.

Some new faces have been given a break. However, some deserving players didn’t get their opportunity. Here are five players who deserved a chance to be a part of the team

Mayank Agarwal

The opener from Karnataka was in a sublime mood across formats in the domestic season. Mayank has been an integral part of the Karnataka team for many years now. Currently, he is in a rich vein of form and is scoring runs in all three formats of the game. He scored 1160 runs at an average of 105 with the highest score of 304* against Maharashtra. He was in decent form during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy as well and ended up scoring 258 runs at an average of 28.

He was in great form during the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy and even smashed a match-winning 90 against Saurashtra.

Rajneesh Gurbani

Rajneesh Gurbani looks like a young Bhuvneshwar Kumar. He relies heavily on his swing and his most lethal delivery is the one which moves away from the right-hander. He has an average speed of 130-135 km/hr. He has bowled well in the domestic circuit and deserved a chance in the team given so many youngsters were there. However, the selectors have made it clear that they can consider for national selection only after playing India A.

Karun has also performed well in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Being a part of the Idnian test team before he should have been given a break. He is only one among the 2 Indian batsmen other than Virender Sehwag to score a Triple century in Test cricket. He is a very pleasing player to watch and can execute the big shots to perfection. He would have been a good choice in the middle overs.

Yuvraj Singh

Given his experience, the stylish left-hander should have been given a chance in the series. However his exclusion has rung the warning bells that he no longer in the scheme of things, He hasn’t been part of the national team for the last seven months. His out of touch in the domestic circuit hasn’t helped his cause either. However with someone like Yuvraj Singh you never know that when he again pushes for the comeback.

Basil Thampi

The right arm pacer is a skiddy customer. He was included in the national squad before. But this time around he missed the chance to play in the Nidahas Trophy; He has been a good young prospect. However, the selectors don’t feel it is the correct time for Thampi.
