7 Interesting Facts About Jaydev Unadkat

The highest wicket-taker in the 2017 edition of the IPL, Jaydev Unadkat became the most expensive Indian player in the IPL Auctions in 2018 after he attracted a huge bid of Rs 11.50 crores for the inaugural champions of the tournament, Rajasthan Royals. The left-arm pacer defeated the likes of KL Rahul and Manish Pandey who fetched Rs 11 crores on the opening day of the auction on Saturday. While Rahul was sold to the Kings XI Punjab, Sunrisers Hyderabad bought the services of Manish Pandey. Unadkat also became the 2nd most expensive buy in the tournament after English all-rounder Ben Stokes who fetched a whopping Rs 12.50 crores.
The bid started with Kings XI Punjab and the Chennai Super Kings, but Rajasthan Royals made a quite entry towards the end and eventually won the bid. Earlier in the day, Rajasthan Royals bought Karnataka all-rounder K Gowtham for a whopping Rs 6.2 crores while his base price was just Rs 20 lakhs. Meanwhile coming back to Unadkat he has been a sensational bowler in the shorter formats and given his terrific form in the last year, or so there was no doubt about the fact that the left-arm pacer would have attracted many bidders.

- The left arm pacer hails from Porbandar, the birthplace of the father of our nation-Mahatma Gandhi
- Unadkat was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders unit in the first few sessions. Despite not getting enough chances, KKR’s bowling coach Wasim Akram hailed him as a prospect.
- Unadkat made a sensational first-class debut in 2010 sensational bagging figures of 13/103 against West Indies A at Grace Road.
- Unadkat played his only Test against South Africa in 2010 at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg and failed to bag a single wicket which led to his ouster and has never returned ever since.
- Played his first ODI for India way back in 2013 against Zimbabwe and had gone on to play six more ODI’s for the national team.
- During India A tour of New Zealand in 2012-13, he picked up 9 List A wickets in just three matches at an impressive average of 15. 77 with a couple of four-wicket hauls.
- Unadkat had to spend substantial time off the field due to a stress fracture he picked up in 2014 and came back strongly in the 2015-16 Ranji season bagging as many as 40 wickets which included four five-wicket hauls to help Saurashtra coast to the finals.
