Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has underlined the spinner who has been a cut above the rest in IPL in the past few years. The projections keep flooding from Aakash Chopra as the 13th edition of IPL comes closer. It begins from the 19th of September in the UAE. Sadly the Indian fans will not get to experience the live action from the stadiums this year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has seen plenty of spinners making a mark since its inception. Amongst the Indians, some of the prolific has been Amit Mishra, Harbhajan Singh, Ravichandran Ashwin, Piyush Chawla while the upcoming ones are Rahul Chahar, Mayank Markande and Ravi Bishnoi. The non-Asian spinners like Adam Zampa, Sunil Narine, and Mohammad Nabi have not been too far behind.

Aakash Chopra said that Harbhajan Singh, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Amit Mishra are his choices for the three best spinners. However, in the last few years, Rashid Khan has gone miles ahead than the rest. The cricketer-turned commentator lauded Sunil Narine as well; however, pointed out that the Trinidadian’s returns have diminished in the last two seasons.

Harbhajan Singh, Ravichandran Ashwin and Amit Mishra will be my three choices but if you talk about the last five years, then Rashid Khan is the best because he has gone far ahead. Sunil Narine has also been very good although he has not been that effective for the last couple of years,” Aakash told in a video while responding to a fan on Facebook.

“But if you talk about the last three to five years, Rashid Khan has been absolutely the best” : Aakash Chopra

According to Aakash Chopra, Ravichandran Ashwin has been the best over the last twelve years while Harbhajan Singh is a close second. The 42-year old placed Amit Mishra third on the list. However, in the last three to five years, Aakash reckons that Rashid Khan has been the best. The Afghan leggie played a crucial role in Sunrisers Hyderabad’s title victory in 2016 and has 55 wickets from 46 games.

So there are a lot of options but over twelve years of the IPL, I will say Ashwin, Harbhajan Singh and Amit Mishra. Mishra will be third in the list and there will be a toss-up between Harbhajan and Ashwin. But if you talk about the last three to five years, Rashid Khan has been absolutely the best,” he added.
