Ahead of the upcoming edition, the auction took place December last year; however, the tournament underwent postponement twice due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, with India witnessing an alarming proliferation of cases even today, BCCI had to change the venue. The BCCI booked UAE to stage the extravaganza. Eight franchises bought a total of 73 players in the auction to finetune their teams.

To begin with, Aakash Chopra said that four-time and defending champions Mumbai Indians look very good and excellent as gold. However, Aakash had concerns with their spin-bowling department. He added that the likes of Anukul Roy, Krunal Pandya, Rahul Chahar, and Jayant Yadav do not inspire plenty of confidence.

Difficult to say, defending champions the Mumbai Indians, they look very good. They are as good as gold. But they don’t have the kind of spin that you want. They have Rahul Chahar, Krunal Pandya, Jayant Yadav, Anukul Roy, not the spin attack that gives you a lot of confidence,” Aakash stated in his Youtube channel.

Instead, Aakash Chopra thinks that Delhi Capitals’ outfit is the one looking the best. He listed the names in Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Alex Carey, Marcus Stoinis, Shimron Hetmyer, Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, and plenty other. The 42-year old concluded that even if Delhi field only three overseas players, their team would be a match-winning one.

Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Alex Carey, Marcus Stoinis, Shimron Hetmeyer, Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Amit Mishra, Sandeep Lamichhane, Ishant Sharma, Daniel Sams – how many options they have got. Even if they play three overseas players, their team will be match-winning. In my opinion, the team that is looking the best on paper is the Delhi Capitals,” he added.
