South Africa’s enigmatic batsman, AB de Villiers, claimed that his team lost to a superior Indian side in the shorter formats of the game. India comprehensively won the ODI series by 5-1 and also swept the T20I series by 2-1. The Proteas, however, won the Test series by 2-1.

This came as a complete reversal from the results when India hosted South Africa in 2o15. India won the Test series by 4-0 but lost the ODI and T20I series. AB made sporadic appearances throughout the Indian tour as he suffered from untimely injuries.

The 34-year old made vital contributions with the bat during the Cape Town and Centurion Test before hurting his finger. He missed out on the first three ODIs due to an injury sustained during Jo’Burg Test. Pink ODI saw the return of AB in coloured clothing after a layoff.

Having played 3 ODIs out of the six matches of the series, AB missed out on the T20I series as he sustained a knee injury prior to the Centurion ODI.

The quintessential South African batsman now is gearing up for the all-important Australian series starting on March 1, at Kingsmead, Durban.

De Villers, in his tweet, accepted the fact that the men in blue were far superior to the Protean and truly deserved their victories. Although, some good rugby action and entertaining golf tended his wounds from the defeat before joining the squad for the Australian series.

Proteas fought hard, India was just too good in the shorter version and deserved the win. In other news, @BlueBullsRugby made my day, and now for some very entertaining Golf. Can’t wait to join the Proteas tomorrow again!! Ready to rumble,” tweeted AB de Villiers.
